Congressional Briefing: Belarus’s Transition from Dictatorship to Democracy
On February 24th, the Central and East European Coalition hosted its first virtual event of the new year: a congressional briefing on the ongoing crisis in Belarus. Speakers included Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Representative on International Affairs and CEEC collegue, Valery Kavaleuski, Senior Fellow and Director of Democracy Initiatives at the German Marshall Fund of the United States, Jonathan Katz, and Project Director at Freedom House in Vilnius, Vytis Jurkonis. We were honored that Representative Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) was able to join and give special remarks, as well as, reassuring words of support. The discussion was moderated by CEEC collegue, Michael Sawkiw, Director of the Ukrainian National Information Service. In total, approximately 37 people attended the event. Thank you to all who tuned in and thank you for continuing to show your support for our Belarusian brothers and sisters’ fight for democracy!
